Crow Lake

Lawson, Mary
Orphaned at 7 by their parents' death in an car accident, Kate and her younger sister, Bo, are raised by Matt, 17, and 19-year-old Luke, with the intervention, support, and sometimes interference of members of their Northern Ontario farm community. The family's belief that education is the "ultimate good," causes the protagonist Kate to leave her family both physically, to attend university in the city, and emotionally, when she grows to believe she no longer has anything in common with them.
