Handmaid's Tale, The
This dystopian novel is set in Gilead and narrated by Offred. Readers follow the daily life of Offred, a handmaid, who has been stripped of her name and former life with her husband and child and forced to become a breeder for an elite couple unable to conceive. In this totalitarian society, dissension is punishable by death or exile to radioactive territory known as the Colonies. Readers learn about Offred's past, present and her fight for a more promising future of freedom and happiness.
