Poppy

This novel is on a par with ‘Charlotte’s Web’ as a perfect novel for students in grade 4. Poppy is a spunky field mouse who overcomes great odds for the greater good of her community when she engages in a power struggle with the tyrant owl, Mr. Ocax. Poppy goes to the top of the hill so that her friend Ragweed can propose to her in a properly romantic setting, but without permission from the owl. Mr. Ocax promptly dispenses with Ragweed. Poppy’s family blame her for disobeying Mr. Ocax.
