Vasili is Doukhobor growing up in British Columbia in the mid-1900s. While he is taken for a time from his family and forced to live in a Residential school, he becomes determined to not fall into a cycle of bitterness but rather labours to live the most meaningful life he can. He carries this attitude with him when he is finally released back to his family and works to find his way that will allow him to remain true to his roots while living within the Canadian society.
