There’s Something in the Water

An in-depth analysis of the legacy of environmental racism and its health impacts on already-vulnerable communities, “There’s Something in the Water” examines the grassroots resistance activities by Indigenous and Black communities in Nova Scotia against the pollution and poisoning of their communities. Commonly broached issues in senior Social Studies classes are addressed in this comprehensive resource that allows students to examine the complexity of the policies of colonization and its effects on minority communities. In the senior secondary classroom, the resource can encourage creative and critical thinking as well as help to broaden students’ understanding of Indigenous affairs and social justice, particularly from an Indigenous perspective.
