Wednesday Wars

Schmidt, Gary
Holling’s year in Grade Seven occurs in the late 1960s against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and the ensuing protests and the fight against racism with the death of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy. He is the humorous narrator of his life which is complicated by being the only student not attending either Jewish or Catholic classes on Wednesday afternoons so it is left to his teacher to occupy his time with brush cleaning and Shakespeare.
