That Time I Loved You

Leung, C.
This Canadian fiction novel explores the secret lives of a diverse group of people; but in particular, it follows the story of June, a young Chinese-Canadian, who is discovering that the community in which she lives is not what it seems. Readers learn the harsh reality of the deep social issues and struggles that hide beneath the surface of the idyllic neighbourhood, where people of all ages and backgrounds struggle to understand themselves and each other. In the classroom, students can have opportunities to discuss mental health, immigration, and also that people’s lives are rarely what they seem on the outside.
