When Grace receives many boxes of buttons from her grandpa she unintentionally starts a new fad at her school when all the students start collecting and wanting buttons and competition and jealousy set in. With the help of button collector Hank and her brother Ben, Grace floods the button market to stop the craze but that backfires and Grace learns a valuable lesson, gets into some trouble, and figures out who are her true friends. This engaging story can be used as a read-aloud, literature circle, or novel study choice, and deals with issues of friendship, fads, healthy relationships, self-confidence, miscommunication, and popularity, and exemplifies scientific thinking and questioning.
