When avid reader Amy Anne discovers that her favourite book has been banned and taken out of the school library she gathers a group of like-minded students who decide to fight the school’s book banning policy. The students decide to collect other banned books and they set up a library of banned books in Amy’s locker but when the controversy grows Amy Anne must account for her actions, and their consequences, in front of the School Board. This novel for grades 4-7 is suitable as a read-aloud, novel study, or literature circle choice and can encourage discussion of imposing restrictions, censorship, rights and freedoms, standing up for what one believes in, and the power of people to create change.
