Stepping Stones: A Refugee Family's Story

Young Rama and her mother, father, brother, and grandfather are forced to leave their village in war-torn Syria when bombs fall near their home and they set off to join the many who are walking their way to freedom. After great distances and much hardship, the family manages to cross the ocean and are welcomed in a new country. This timely bilingual picture book – written in English and Arabic – is uniquely illustrated with 3D stone art which aptly portrays the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of the characters. Suitable for grades 2-6 as a class read-aloud to introduce the sensitive subject of the refugee experience, perspectives of cause-and-consequence, and to help students understand global conflicts.
