Peace Dancer

Vickers, R.H., Budd, R.
This re-telling of the First Nations legend of The Flood outlines its cause – children mistreating a crow – and focuses on its resolution – the Peace Dance, which is performed at every Potlach. The resource can be used to introduce units on the Potlatch, oral tradition, or Indigenous art, and will allow students in K-7 to explore and understand compassion, respect, and consequences for actions. The compelling, full-colour artwork by Roy Henry Vickers has great impact and can prompt students to think creatively and critically beyond the text.
