Nimoshom and his Bus

Thomas, P.
Nimoshom (my grandfather in Cree) drives the school bus and as he drives the children to and from school he introduces them to the Cree language by telling silly stories. The gentle story offers a portrait of his everyday life and the relationships he develops with the children. This Canadian picture book has simple, easy-to-understand sentences, soft watercolour and pastel illustrations, and key vocabulary words in Cree. A useful read-aloud for K-4 to introduce connectedness and relationships, identity, and language of the Metis peoples, to discuss how different families speak different languages, and to encourage students to try words from many cultures, including Cree.
