Rebel, The: Gabriel Dumont

Robertson, D.A.
History class is not Tyrese’s favourite until his friend Levi brings history to life for him, through a time machine hidden in the school basement. The two boys summon Metis leader Gabriel Dumont, and experience a bison hunt, a skirmish with the Blackfoot, a meeting Louis Riel, and the great Battle of Batoche. This Canadian graphic novel provides an overview of the key events in Dumont’s life and will engage students and encourage them to think critically about Canada’s past. Useful as a literature circle or guided reading text, a supplementary text for study of Metis history, or as a starting point for further inquiry/research into Indigenous Canadian leaders.
