All American Boys

Reynolds, J.; Kiely, B.
Quinn, a white student, witnesses a white police officer savagely beat unarmed and innocent black teen Rashad. The high school, traditional media, and social media become polarized over police violence against black youth, and Quinn and others struggle over whether to do something or remain neutral. The novel alternates narration between Quinn and Rashad, and gives each a distinct voice and presents their ethical dilemmas. Suitable for grades 11-12, the book offers opportunities for discussion of racism, justice, and non-violent responses to violence.
