Road, The

McCarthy, Cormac
This post-apocalyptic story is both haunting and compelling. The writing style is not complex, yet the plot is engaging. Themes and moral issues are universal in a world void of life, ashen and gray, as a father and his young son struggle against all odds to journey to the sea. At the centre of the novel is what lies at the core of humanity: while many survivors of this holocaust have sunk to unspeakable depths of depravity, the father and his son have clung to each other and hope and love.
