End of East, The

Lee, Jen Sookfong
This is a modern day version of Wayson Choy's The Jade Peony. The novel spans three generations of a Chinese family who have chosen to immigrate to Canada. The patriarchal grandfather comes as a young man and, after many years, his wife and son join him. The struggle between the 'traditional' Chinese belief system and trying to fit into the Canadian culture are present throughout the novel. This novel addresses the difficulties experienced by immigrants and how assimilation isn't easy.
