Color Purple, The

The novel follows the very different lives of two African-American sisters as they struggle to survive during the inter-war years. Celie marries a man with four children in order to get out of her house only to find that life is not much better in her new home. Nettie, on the other hand, travels to Africa as a missionary. Though they are separated by space and time, they continue to love and cherish their relationship.
