Persepolis

This graphic novel is both a political history and a memoir, following the protagonist, Marjane, and her family during the Iranian Revolution. From the ages of 6 to 14, Marjane lives during the overthrow of the Shah, the subsequent revolution in Iran, and then war with Iraq. She struggles against women's loss of their rights under the repressive fundamentalist government that emerges.
