Families Around the World

Ruurs, M.
This engaging resource provides an introduction to the lives of children in fourteen different countries. Written in simple language and accompanied by engaging illustrations, it presents a variety of diverse families, including single parent, same-sex, and multi-racial families, and focuses on the common theme of the love the children have for their own particular family. The Canadian resource, for grades 3-7, can foster critical thinking, promote discussions of diversity, cultural norms, geographic implications, and personal experiences, and be a starting point for in-depth learning and cross-curricular projects.
