Part of a six-book set about the COVID-19 pandemic, “Flattening the Curve” focuses on how the virus has impacted different aspects of our lives and communities. The reference book is written from an American perspective, and its contents are relevant to BC students as it is addresses issues that apply to all, such as hygiene, social distancing, and mental health strategies. The book is engaging and uses language and visuals that are appropriate for the emotional and cognitive level of students from Grade K–9. In the classroom, the resource provides an opportunity for the teaching of text features and strategies for reading for information. Sections of the book may be used to teach healthy living strategies during the pandemic or the book can be read independently or as a class to invite discussions and to understand how different parts of the world are responding to the pandemic.
