Zenobia July

Bunker, L.
An engaging and relevant novel, “Zenobia July” is a timely read for middle school and high school students as it broaches LGBTQ+ topics as well as cyberculture. It is a contemporary novel that tells the story of Zenobia, a transgender teen, as she struggles with complex conflicts while navigating her own gender identity, also embarking on a mission to solve a cyber mystery at her new school that highlights ethical and legal situations associated with the cyber world. In the classroom, this novel may be used in literature circles or as a novel study, and it may present the opportunity to see the world through a transgender teenager’s eyes, also while lending itself to a study of its literary devices and well-developed themes around LGBTQ issues, cyberbullying, and inclusive spaces.
