Birthday

Russo, M.
Two life-long friends, Eric and Morgan, celebrate their birthdays together every year, but as they grow and change, they each continue on their own journey to discover their identity and sexuality, eventually also discovering how much they mean to each other. A story of identity, friendship, and coming of age, “Birthday” presents opportunities for discussions around social justice issues and character development in a senior secondary classroom. Students may engage with the text in a literature circle or in an independent novel study, in particular, as an opportunity to explore its mature themes or its use of characterization and multiple perspectives.
