iNaturalist

A database of observations, “iNaturalist” is an online network of citizen scientists from around the globe. A data bank of recordings and observations on hundreds of thousands of species and their locations across the earth, this resource can be used to spark interest in biodiversity, facilitate species identification, encourage nature journaling, and inspire collaborative projects. The intuitive navigation and well-organized options allow for students in Grade K–12 to easily access the content. In the classroom, the site could be integrated into cross-curricular contexts such as creative writing tasks blended with social studies or science inquiries. Additionally, “iNaturalist” may help hone observation skills and inspire students to engage in outdoor learning opportunities.
