Choi, M.H.K.
Jayne and her older sister June, young Korean American women living in New York, do not have much in common, especially in academics, career success, and confidence, and live their separate lives. Jayne details their youthful relationship filled with competition, and her personal insecurity, lack of confidence, and an eating disorder. When June is diagnosed with cancer the two sisters re-unite, work together to deal with the diagnosis, and Jayne steps up to care for June. This engaging, relatable story for senior students is told with humour and touches on issues of ethics, inter-generational trauma, personal identity, eating disorders, and trying to fit in. Social considerations noted; pre-reading activities recommended.
