Love in English

Andreu, M. E.
When sixteen-year-old aspiring poet Ana and her mom move from Argentina to the US to join her dad, she is overwhelmed with establishing a life in a different land, re-building a relationship with her patriarchal dad, fitting in to a new school, and trying to express herself and how she feels in a foreign language. She eventually finds her place with the help of new friends and through navigating a love triangle with a typical American boy and an ESL pal. The novel explores life for immigrants, the importance of language in day-to-day life, love, identity, expression, teenage rebellion, sexual orientation, and the struggle to fit in. Useful as a class novel and for literature circles.
