Sea-Ringed World, The: Sacred Stories of the Americas

Esperon, M.G.
A collection of stories from Indigenous cultures across the Americas, this anthology of fifty-six tales unveils the sacred stories shared over fifteen thousand years to explain and understand the universe. Stories of creation, morals, traditions, love, romance, power, God, and humankind are full of teachings and lessons, helping students get a glimpse into the Indigenous cultural storytelling, customs, and history of the land before the Europeans stepped foot in the Americas. Suitable as a read-aloud in a Grade 6–12 classroom, stories could be studied and compared to each other and to those from other civilizations. Students may be prompted to think about key questions that arise from the readings or create artwork inspired by the narratives.
