My Tree

Lim, H.
When a young boy immigrates to America from Korea, he notices a plum tree that reminds him of home—providing him with solace and comfort in his new surroundings. Bright and colourful images highlight the shifting emotions of the boy, offering readers reminders of the simple things that can help people feel at home and of the impact of nature on one’s wellbeing. Students from Grade K–5 may be inspired to discuss and learn about places immigrant families may come from and what they miss most about their homes. Students may be encouraged to reflect on nature and what they connect with in the natural environment, and teachers may invite them to draw pictures and write poems or stories to convey their thoughts.
