Our Professional Learning Team is offering sessions that feature digital tools which are accessible to all K-12 public school educators, and educators at Independent schools which are members of Focused ED. The tools are quality, curated, and accessible from school or home.


Explorons IDÉLLO: des appuis multimédias pour tous les sujets

Audience: Grades K-3

Date:   Tuesday February 14th   

Time:    3:30-4:30 pm PST

Pendant cet atelier, nous explorerons les différents types de médias disponibles sur le site IDELLO. Nous explorerons aussi la création d’une banque de ressources préférées afin de bien organiser les ressources pour toutes vos classes. (Cette session sera en français)

BC Digital Classroom: Helping Create Information Literacy Through Information Access

Audience: Grades K-3

Date:  Wednesday February 15th

Time:    3:30-4:30 pm  PST

Early World of Learning and Worldbook Kids fit well in BC primary classrooms.  Emergent learners will engage in an interactive and playful environment that encourages reading comprehension and mastery of phonetic skills. Early World of Learning is full of stories, videos, songs, and games to provide a firm foundation for 21st-century learning and digital citizenship.  It includes a reading collection of 48 stories spread across four progressive Lexile® levels to provide building blocks for early readers.

Old Timey Newspapers for the Digital Age

Date:  Friday, February 17th   (Pro-D Day for many districts)

Time:   9:30 - 10:30am  PST

Investigate a unique resource available to all BC educators and students. ProQuest databases include digital archives of some of BC's major historic (and current) newspapers. But the possibilities are so much more...consider: the historical context of machines, advertising, the speed of travel of information in a print-based world STEAM project.

 

Challenge-Based Learning and the BC Digital Classroom e-Resources

Audience:  Grades K-12

Date:  Friday, February 17th (Pro-D Day for many districts)

Time:  11:00am - 12:00pm PST

The World of Worldbook

Audience:  K-12 (different resources for various levels) 

Date:  Wednesday, February 22nd 

Time:  3:30 - 4:30pm PST

World Book promotes learning through a range of products in which complex topics are concisely explained and vividly illustrated.  The resources span Early Primary to Secondary.  Easy to use, BC curricula aligned, audio and visual prompting.  All articles can be translated to multiple languages and read aloud in that language.  Current, accurate and options available for all grades.

 

The Lagniappes of the BC Digital Classroom e-resources

Date:  Wednesday, February 22nd 

Time:  3:30 - 4:30pm PST

Did you know many of the Digital Resources in the BC Digital Classroom offer supplementary graphic organizers, extension activities and thinking prompts? Come on a mining expedition and see what you are missing.

 

Live it Earth - Cross-Curricular Resource (Science, Social Studies, Environmental Science)

Audience: Grades K-7

Date:  Wednesday, February 22nd

Time 3:30 - 4:30pm PST

The Live It Earth bilingual suite focuses on place-based, hybrid learning experiences. It offers hours of cross-curricular programming, informed by Indigenous perspectives and supplemented by extensive instructional supports. It includes how-to videos, inquiry guides, slide shows and pro-d materials, and allows for the customization of presentation materials. The website search engine allows teachers to filter resources in relation to BC Curriculum. Eight new programs are added annually in French and English. Join us in an overview of this new Focused Education e-resource.

 

GALE “In Context” Series:  Canada, Science and Global Issues

Audience: Grades 8-12

Date:  Thursday, February 23rd 

Time 3:30 - 4:30pm PST

This session will look at the current media rich content of the “In Context” Suite of databases from GALE.  These three databases work well to support you in delivering online content to meet the redesigned BC curriculum at the grade 8-12 level.  We will investigate tips, tricks, Lexile reading level search functions and the “on demand” text and voice translations with the intention of supporting diverse learners in the classroom.  Your teachers and students have access to these resources from school and home, as part of the BC Digital Classroom.
