Road Allowance Kitten

Burton, W.
This Canadian picture book tells the story of two young Metis girls who were not allowed to take their pet kitten with them when their families were forcibly removed from their homes. They were part of the Road Allowance Metis who lived on road allowances along Crown Land in the western provinces and were displaced and relocated by the government. Suitable for grades 3-7 as a read-aloud to prompt discussions, journal writing, debate, and critical thinking, for independent or partner reading, or for research projects. This poignant story is accompanied by expressive and engaging images and includes Michif text.
