Train, The

Callaghan, J.
When Ashley is walking home from school she comes upon her great-uncle near the abandoned railway station. Uncle sits with Ashley and tells her about when the train came and took him and his siblings away to a residential school, where the children lost their culture and were treated horribly. This Canadian picture book introduces young students to residential schools and the abuses suffered by First Nations children. Suitable as a read-aloud for K-5 to support or enhance lessons, to prompt discussions, and to spark art activities.
