Thirteen-year-old Amari, a Black teen who lives in the projects, learns of her brother’s disappearance after he becomes an agent in a supernatural world. She accepts an invitation to join that world where she discovers she has magical powers and begins a journey to find her brother and the facts around his disappearance. Amari faces prejudice in both worlds, works hard to fit in, and struggles to gain confidence. This fast-paced novel addresses racism, prejudice, friendship, family loyalty, bullying, socio-economic status, and building self-confidence, and can be used for a literature circle, independent, or entire class novel study.
