Giles, L.
This contemporary American anthology gathers works that elevate the voices of marginalized individuals, including Indigenous peoples, people of colour, and the LGBT community. They provide a view of underrepresented worldviews, experiences, and reflections on the reality and impact of discrimination. Individual stories could be used to supplement in-class readings, a number of entries could be grouped thematically to create a separate stand-alone unit, the myriad of topics covered could foster class discussions, and the diverse styles could be the topic of literary analysis. Pre-teaching of vocabulary and cultural/historical context may be required.
