Cougar Frenzy

Cougar Frenzy

McDowell, P.
A cougar is causing a commotion in the small community of Waterton, and fear is growing amongst the townspeople, as well as the pressure to catch it. But is it really a cougar that is to blame? Cricket, the Warden’s daughter, and her friend set off to solve the mystery using clues they find with the help of a university researcher studying cougars who explains their populations and how to track the animals. Sustainability, environmental stewardship, and our role in caring for the world around us are all themes broached in this illustrated novel. In a Grade 2–4 classroom, teachers may use the resource to discuss these topics and learn about animals indigenous to British Columbia. The book lends itself well as a read-aloud and may inspire opportunities to weave in Indigenous knowledge and understanding of local animals.
