When Johnny and Grandma are driving home, he spies a feathery lump beside the road – a pheasant. Johnny thinks it is just injured and wants to take it home to recover; Grandma believes it is dead and mentions she could use its beautiful feathers for craftwork. They pack the pheasant into the trunk and after arriving home the pheasant astonishes them both when he flies away – with a short detour to sit on Grandma’s head – but leaves a beautiful feather for Johnny to give Grandma for her crafts.
