I'm Finding My Talk

I'm Finding My Talk

Thomas, R.
This award-winning picture book, with its lyrical words and vibrant illustrations, explores the legacy of residential schools in Canada. A young girl is trying to connect with her identity and her culture, but her father can’t help as he had it taken away from him by the residential school system. She learns about her language, culture, and identity by talking to elders, connecting to the land, and exploring cultural traditions. This story of healing and recovery can be used to gently introduce primary students to the losses and impact of residential schools, to encourage writing and art activities, and to support or supplement class lessons.
