Cohen, T.
When eleven-year-old Miriam’s family moves to a small town to run an old hotel her world changes: she feels isolated, she misses her friends, she must work hard to help with the hotel, and her family is the only Jewish family in the town. She makes a new friend, Kate, who is Catholic, and when the hotel is in serious financial trouble only a miracle can save it, so the girls create their own miracle to bring tourists to town to save the hotel, but Miriam questions the morality of their actions. This contemporary Canadian novel explores faith, belonging, anti-Semitism, ethics, good vs. bad, and prejudice, and offers opportunities for debates, discussions, and research projects.
