Advanced Art Portfolio
Students will create a portfolio of artwork that representative of their skills, interest and style. Students are expected to have a range of artistic skills, experience and knowledge prior to taking this course. Students will choose what projects, exercise and research to pursue in order to create portfolio ready work. Students will articulate the processes/ideas involved in creating each piece of art, justify their choices and recognize areas for growth.
A students portfolio is their ticket to post Secondary studies in many creative fields of the arts. Students will be encouraged to refine their artistic and technical skills, become more intentional and reflective about their creative process and define their personal style. This course provides many opportunities for student-directed, personalized learning and to take a more thoughtful and mature approach to their artwork that represents who they are as an artist.
Visual arts are an essential element of culture and personal identity. Purposeful artistic choices enhance the depth and meaning of artistic work. Aesthetic experiences have the power to transform our perspective. Creating a cohesive body of work requires intention, reflection, perseverance and resilience. Visual art offers unique ways to explore our identity and sense of belonging, and to create a community of students with shared interests.
Students are expected to know: the processes involved in creating a visual art portfolio; portfolio requirements for relevant post-secondary programs; elements of visual art; principals of design and image development strategies as they relate to their own artwork; creative processes, from idea generation to finished product; influence of visual culture; contributions of traditional, innovative, and intercultural artists, who have influenced their work; symbols and metaphors used in their work.
