Advanced Art Portfolio
Students create a portfolio of artwork-a cohesive body of work-that is representative of their skills, interests and style. It can be used to apply to post-secondary art programs and students should be prepared to complete unique pieces of art that reflect their familiarity with a diversity of materials, processes and technologies, strengths in one area of concentration, artistic process (including planning and sketchbook exploration), personal style and reflect their identity, worldviews, etc.
Students Portfolio is their ticket to post-secondary studies in many creative fields. Many post-secondary institutions that offer programs in these areas base their acceptance largely on the portfolio and require original work that students have chosen to do themselves. Visual Arts are courses taught in multi-course/grade classrooms. Course is unique that requires a higher level of skill and commitment. Students will demonstrate knowledge and interest in historical and contemporary arts.
Visual arts are an essential element of culture and personal identity. Purposeful artistic choices enhance the depth and meaning of artistic work. Aesthetic experiences have the power to transform our perspective. Creating a cohesive body of work requires intention, reflection, perseverance and resilience. Offers unique way to explore our identity and sense of belonging, and to create a community of students with shared interests.
Students are expected to have a range of artistic skills, experience and knowledge prior to taking this course. Students choose what projects, exercises and research to pursue in order to create portfolio-ready work. Through conversations and constructive feedback, students will articulate the processes and ideas involved in creating each piece of art, describe and justify their artistic choices and recognize areas of growth.
