Conversation 10 (French)
Students will have the opportunity to practice their speaking and listening skills in a variety of creative ways in order to feel more comfortable and be more accurate in the language of instruction. This course is an advanced oral communication course aimed at students enrolled in a Francophone, French Immersion or additional language program.
Students will become proficient & knowledgeable users of the target language, in all its forms, to achieve personal, social & career aspirations. Appreciate language & learning as sources of joy, curiosity & passion. Strengthen understanding of themselves, diverse cultures & multiple perspectives through the exploration of First Peoples’ & other Canadian & international texts. Acquire an openness toward interculturality by belonging to a minority language community in a multicultural context.
The process of language refinement promotes effective self-reflection & expression of oneself. Exploring passions through the target language enhances creative processes. Our personal experiences are shaped by our linguistic & cultural identities. Learning additional languages helps students establish their place in the world and forge their identity by opening doors in personal, social & work life. Viewing ideas from different perspectives promotes the understanding of one’s personal values.
Aboriginal Worldviews and Perspectives: Conversation 10 exemplifies Aboriginal ways of thinking with an emphasis on oral language. Students develop their communication & conversational skills through units such as story-telling and activities such as interviews & sharing of different perspectives. In addition to these skills, students gain a better understanding of important cultural values in Aboriginal cultures through some of the texts & experiences explored in the course.
