Critical Thinking is a course designed to provide students with an understanding of main elements and ideas of logical and argumentative thinking, writing & speaking. This course will help students develop the skills & dispositions they need to become Independent School, self-directed thinkers & learners. This course covers the five major critical thinking domains, critical approach to thinking & reasoning, logic, language, argumentative writing & rhetorical debate.
This course is designed to provide a versatile & comprehensive introduction to critical thinking. This discipline includes a wide range of cognitive skills & intellectual dispositions needed to effectively identify, analyze & evaluate arguments & truth claims. It will encourage students to discover & overcome personal preconceptions & biases, to formulate & present convincing reasons in support of conclusions & to make reasonable, intelligent decisions about what to believe and what to do.
Critical Thinking supports logical, rational & argumentative thinking, writing & speaking. Help us more effectively investigate ideas, propositions & arguments to foster understanding of different ways of thinking. Examining questions with logic & rationality allows people to question their assumptions & better understand their own beliefs. Logical & reasoned arguments can reveal which answers have more validity & truth. Rational & logical thinking develop us as world citizens of the future.
Logical thinking supports the well-being of self, community & land. Rational & logical thinking fosters a holistic, reflexive, reflective, experiential & relational (focused on connectedness, on reciprocal relationships & a sense of place). Critical thinking develops clear recognition of the consequences of one’s actions. Critical thinking helps develop wider understanding of reality & is embedded in memory, history & story.
