Global Food Studies
Global Food Studies 11 provides an opportunity for students to express their creativity through presentation and demonstration of food preparation techniques and skills found in the study of Global cuisines. The historical, social, cultural and personal contexts of food habits are emphasized. Global diversity is celebrated and respected throughout this course.
Global Food Studies 11 is designed to promote acceptance and embracement of cultural differences in our schools through the study of food and traditions in a variety of countries on 5 of the world’s continents. The intent is to foster a high level of understanding and interest in the differences and similarities that exist in the food habits of various cultures.
Service and creativity inform the culinary arts. Cultural cuisine interests require the evaluation and refinement of skills. Tools and technologies can be adapted for specific purposes.
Aboriginal Worldviews and Perspectives: • Storytelling is an important Indigenous method for building relationships, supporting experiential learning and promoting positive personal and cultural identities. Students in Global Foods Studies 11 share their own life stories and consider the impact of their own experiences on their views and values around food and culture.
