Student driven (personalized)that provides the opportunity to reflect and assess their learning, set goals, master core competencies and pursue areas of learning. Structured to allow students to connect with a teacher mentor to explore topics of interest to them and develop a learning plans. Due to the personalized nature, the learning focuses on enhancing student engagement in learning and giving students choices leading to lifelong, and self-directed learning allowing more learning control.

Goals and Rationale

The emphasis is on developing personal and social skills. Personal and social competency is the set of abilities that relate to students' identity and encompasses the abilities they need to thrive as individuals to understand and care about themselves and others and find and achieve their purposes in the world. The goal is to better engage students in their own learning and foster the skills and competencies students will need to succeed.

Big Ideas

Global and regional conflicts, movements, and advancements are a powerful force in shaping contemporary world and identities; Communicating and collaborating with a mentor helps to identify personal strengths/abilities as a pathway to success; Questioning what we hear, read and view contributes to our ability to be educated and engaged citizens; reflecting on personal growth; putting learners at the centre increases connectedness and engagement, requiring evaluation and refinement of skills

Additional Information

Will help develop thoughtful learners who are able to communicate and think critically, are flexible, creative, self motivated, capable of reflecting and making Independent School learning decisions, and can gain satisfaction through their own achievement.
