Student driven (personalized)that provides the opportunity to reflect and assess their learning, set goals, master core competencies and pursue areas of learning. Structured to allow students to connect with a teacher mentor to explore topics of interest to them and develop a learning plans. Due to the personalized nature, the learning focuses on enhancing student engagement in learning and giving students choices leading to lifelong, and self-directed learning allowing more learning control.

Goals and Rationale

The emphasis is on communication and thinking skills. The communication competency encompasses the set of abilities that students use to impart and exchange information, experiences and ideas, to explore the world around them and understand and effectively engage in the use of digital media. The thinking competency encompasses the knowledge, skills and processes we associate with intellectual development. Students take subject specific concepts and content and transform into a new understanding.

The rapid development and proliferation of technology has led to profound social, economic and political changes; communicate and collaborate with a mentor to identify strengths; Question what we hear, read and view contributes to ability to be educated and engaged citizens; reflect on personal growth; putting learners at the centre of their learning increases connectedness and engagement

Additional Information

Students will be provided with a safe learning environment for which they are able to explore their own areas of interest while developing academic and transferable skills that carry over to the workplace, post-secondary and help them contribute to their community
