Iyun Gemara 10

Students will be able to read, understand and translate complete sentences in Aramaic. Additionally, the courses focuses on recognizing patterns within the text, specifically regarding questions posed and answers given within the text. Students will be able recognize apparent contradictions within the text and will be able to formulate responses to these questions. This will lead to a knowledge of the laws presented in the Talmud and an understanding of their source and rationale.

Goals and Rationale

Gemara 10 (G10) is designed to develop reading and comprehension skills required to read and understand the Babylonian Talmud, or Gemara, in its original Aramaic and traditional format. This text forms the foundation of Orthodox Jewish Law, and the ability to interpret this text is necessary to appreciate Jewish traditions and obligations. G10 aims to develop skills necessary to correctly read, translate and comprehend the Babylonian Talmud.
