This course provides an experiential approach towards Jewish Songs and Prayers. It aims to teach students the traditional Jewish songs and prayer which are recited during the daily prayer services in a synagogue. The prayers and songs are taught in the Hebrew language. As many prayers and songs and communal in nature, this course fosters group participating and communication among peers, alongside developing leadership skills by affording students the opportunities to lead prayer services.

Goals and Rationale

Song and prayer are an essential part of the Jewish religion. Orthodox Jewish law dictates that prayer services should be conducted three times a day. This course aims to train students in the laws and practicalities of Jewish prayer services. Also, it aims to familiarize the students with the Hebrew text of the songs and prayers. Students will be capable of leading communal prayer services and explaining the meaning behind the words used.
