Leadership 10
To provide students with the opportunity to learn & explore their leadership skills. Students will learn leadership traits & be expected to demonstrate their leadership capacity by organizing & leading various classroom, school & community events. A strong focus will be placed on working in teams. Other leadership skills covered are ethical decision making, tolerance, decision making models, time management & organizational skills. They may also participate in several team building field trips.
Identify qualities of good leadership by examining current & past world leaders. Explore, identify, & develop personal leadership strengths & weaknesses. Enhance personal leadership capacity by engaging in dialogue with classmates, school & community leaders. Apply leadership skills to practical situations, volunteer within school & community. Build positive connections between the community & school by organizing events. Develop ability to work in teams & learn effective communication skills.
The importance of communication skills in building trust & conveying vision & mission. Participation & organization of activities within the community will develop personal leadership capacity & personal awareness. Personal, social, ethical & cultural considerations impact leadership-related decision making. Safe & effective use of digital media offers a powerful platform to demonstrate leadership capacity.
Aboriginal Worldviews and Perspectives: Engaging in leadership practices allows students to explore their own identity while recognizing the consequences of one’s actions. Leadership & learning is holistic, reflexive, reflective, experiential & relational. Learning supports well-being of self, family, community, land, spirits & ancestors. Exploring leaders from the past will provide students with an opportunity to learn from past mistakes & help guide students in decision-making practices.
