Library Science 10
Library Science 10 provides students with an introductory study of the Library Learning commons model as it supports students. Through controlled inquiry, students will develop and practice trans-literacy skills and promote them to their peers in various ways. Students will also learn and practice the operation methods that promote access to the Library Learning Commons resources, services and programs.
Library Science 10 is designed to support students in their developing understanding of the Library Learning Commons model in the school as it supports student learning. This course has cross-curricular elements as students will develop information literacy, digital literacy and media literacy skills through controlled inquiry, study, discussion, collaboration and supporting their peers.
• Access to Library Learning Commons resources, services and programs, can affect the way we understand the world • The Library Learning Commons is the center of learning in a school community • Inquiry Research gives us a framework to explore our questions, curiosities, problems and meet learning goals • The Library Learning Commons promotes a culture of reading and supports this in individuals and the school community
Recommended Instructional Components: The teacher will design instructional strategies that: • acknowledge the social nature of learning; • embed formative assessment practices such as learning intentions, criteria, questions, descriptive feedback, self and peer-assessment; • provide opportunities for students to share learning and reflect; • utilize technologies and other tools in purposeful ways
