Medieval Armouring 12

This course continues the learning & skill development started in Medieval Armouring 10 & continued in Medieval Armouring 11 & develops a student's metal working skills through medieval armouring projects. This course focuses on the traditional techniques of a medieval armourer, as well as touching on modern tools & equipment to speed up the manufacturing process. High end blacksmithing, forging, sheet metal armouring & chainmaille work will all be included in this course.

Goals and Rationale

This metal themed course has been developed to encourage students to explore metal work trades through projects. Students learn the history of metal work along with career-related skills such as forming methods, used in creating a sheet metal shield or helmet, which is the same process used in the auto-body, aerospace & film industries.

Big Ideas

Success requires Independent School motivation & learning. Complex tasks require the sequencing of skills. Complex tasks require different technologies & tools at different stages. Personal design interests require the evaluation & refinement of skills. Developing hands on skills & confidence for personal & career purposes, requires self-directed & lifelong learning.

Additional Information

Course Synopsis cont'd: Students will completely develop their own projects based on the continuation of their current skill set in medieval armouring. This is a hands-on project-based course.
