Percussion Ensemble I I B is intended to follow 11A. They will continue to build on skills on both non-traditional as well as traditional percussion instruments. Students will explore the perfonning arts in a variety of social/cultural/historical contexts, and will specifically develop and refine their skills in keyboard playing, cultural music with respect to the instrumentation required to play, Aboriginal music and drumline introduction. Goals and Rationale

Music has an emphasis on experiential learning for all students. Percussion 11B is a course that builds on the skills and techniques learned in Percussion 1 l A. In Percussion Ensemble, there is always a tremendous range in talent and skill. For this reason, this class always has a focus on stick and mallet technique building, theory knowledge, instrument care and knowledge and performance skills. Additional Information

time in this course will be spent on theory refinement {music reading and decoding) - with a focus on developing and refining writing notated music and rhythms and developing rudimentary skills in match grip. The remaining 75% of instructional time will focus on performance preparation, drumline skills and community performances.
