Vehicle Maintenance 11
Provides opportunities for students to develop a practical understanding of the skills & knowledge to purchase, operate & maintain a personal vehicle. A range of theoretical & practical experiences to address basic aspects of safety, tools, fasteners & automotive service procedures. Students will learn by doing & will be expected to participate in a hands-on working environment using tools & equipment normally found in commercial repair shops & to perform basic service on a variety of vehicles.
To develop a sense of efficacy & personal agency about their ability to participate as inventors, innovators & agents of change to address practical challenges in a rapidly changing world. Understand the environmental implications of the products & services they are designing & applying. Investigate & actively explore areas of Technology & Technology Education & new & emerging fields, to develop practical hands-on skills & pursue specialized interests for personal enjoyment or careers.
Personal service and maintenance expertise require the evaluation and refinement of skills over time. Personal vehicle operation, service, and maintenance have social and environmental impacts. Tools and technologies can be adapted for specific purposes. Personal automotive repair and maintenance have financial implications.
This is a general interest course & is not intended to prepare students for a career in the automotive service industry & is not a prerequisite for more advanced Secondary School Automotive courses. It is an excellent introduction to this area & students may continue learning in this area by choosing from the range of Automotive course offered at a more advanced level. Students can build confidence towards basic automotive systems & become an empowered vehicle owner.
